Get out of my own way? What does this mean? How does one get out of the way? First, be willing to see that this “me-character” (ego) is in the way. In the way of your awareness of your True Self, who is not this dispirited “me.” Ego is on the attack, mainly upon yourself, but can be found attacking others – the two go hand-in-hand.

You may think you are forging ahead at what’s right for you or someone else. All the while you are actually attacking yourself. Though you may appear to be doing something of great value, your lack of attention to your greater value is causing you great suffering beneath the appearances.

How does one know one is suffering beneath appearances? Unfortunately, most do not know precisely because they do not want to know. That’s the ego for you! Hence, the need to get out of my own way.

What is it that one is to step back from, exactly?

12 Ways We Get In Our Way:

1. Taking things personally
2. Being easily offended
3. Getting defensive
4. Making excuses
5. Dwelling on the past
6. Being unforgiving > justifying your unhealed perceptions
7. Have a big but in conversations, “but, but, but, but, but, but, but!”
8. Deciding ahead time what you think about someone – the kind of person he is, her lifestyle, her way of seeing the world, his upbringing etc.
9. Judging a person based on their appearances; Thinking someone is judging you….lololol
10. Believe the ego’s deceiving words – “You don’t know enough to do that” “No one will come to that” “Who do you think you are?” “What will people think of me” “She’s doing that on purpose to upset me” “I might make a mistake” “People will think I think I’m a know it all” on and on….
11. Intellectualizing
12. Believing you are unworthy
